Phishing emails targeting students

We’re aware of phishing emails being sent to students at another London based university asking students to provide their bank details via a website link.

RVC Finance or Registry staff will not ask you to disclose any banking or credit card details on any website or external web portal (except for a secure online payments portal). If you receive an email that appears to be from the RVC and asking you for this information then please notify either a member of Registry staff or a member of Finance staff (via finance@rvc.ac.uk) or report it to the IT Helpdesk helpdesk@rvc.ac.uk . Our policy is to collect your details over the phone or by asking you to complete a hard-copy form.

We advise that you should never disclose your bank details by email. You should be suspicious of any requests for personal or financial information and phone the relevant organisation directly.  We will never ask you to confirm or disclose your bank details or login information by email or by using an external website (although we may ask you to contact us by telephone if we think we don’t have the correct or complete information to make payments or refunds to you). Neither will RVC IT staff ask you for your password: so anything that asks you to disclose a password is likely to be phishing.
