Dear Students,

We are really pleased to announce you will no longer have to put up with full email inboxes!  We are upgrading the email system soon to give you a whooping 50Gb!  Not only that, but we will also give you 5 copies of Microsoft Office for you to use on any device (Mac/PC/iPad etc).  Just to welcome you back to the new term!

The Changes

There are some big advantages, your accounts will become very spacious, allowing up to 50Gb of email storage, Office 365 plus software on 5 devices.  The email system will now be cloud based and managed by Microsoft so you should see a huge improvement in the reliability of the system.  Also, the old webmail interface is going and we are replacing it with a new, much more user friendly one, at mail.rvc.ac.uk

What do you need to do?

More good news!  The change over will not involve much from you. Over the weekend of 24th October 2014 we will migrate all accounts to the new system.  When this happens you will need to delete your accounts from your iPhones/ipads/android devices and reinstall it, the same as you did the first time you put it on there.  Don’t worry – there are full instructions (with pictures) on Learn.  You will know when to do this, as your device’s emails will stop working.  From this point onwards you should use mail.rvc.ac.uk and not the webmail too.

When is this happening?

The weekend of 24th October.  So your accounts should all be new and refreshed and massive when you return on Monday!

 Why is this happening?

We have listened to your concerns about the email system, and that many of you suffer from full-inbox-syndrome, so we have increased your inbox to 50Gb.  Also, we recognise that Microsoft office is a substantial cost to you and your many devices, so Microsoft have let us give you 5 copies of office for free.  Thirdly, we want you to easily stay in touch with each other once you graduate – so you can now keep your email address for life!!

What do I do if there is a problem?

IT Helpdesk is there to help you.  Just pop and see them if you get really stuck – but there full instructions on RVC Learn, and it is pretty simple.

We really hope you are happy with this improvement!  Please keep your feedback coming in.  IT Helpdesk is there to help sort out any problems you may have.
