On Thursday, August 6, 2020 at 2:00 pm BST most Panopto Cloud sites will have TLS 1.0 and 1.1 connections disabled for a period of 2 hours. This is an important test that will allow us to improve the security of your Panopto site. We do not anticipate that this test will cause a disruption in your service.
Sites where we have measured a relatively significant volume of TLS 1.0 or 1.1 traffic will not be included in this test. Our support team will reach out to assist these sites in migrating to TLS 1.2.
TLS is the cryptographic protocol that underlies secure communication on the web, using the HTTPS protocol. TLS version 1.2 is considered to be secure and is used by the vast majority of traffic to Panopto’s services. Older versions of TLS, specifically 1.0 and 1.1 are no longer considered to be secure but are still used by a small percentage of traffic to Panopto.
Our cloud operations team will be monitoring traffic during this test and we will reach out proactively if we find a notable change in traffic during this time. If you notice that any of your systems or tools that utilize Panopto’s APIs experience an inability to connect to Panopto during this test, or for any questions about this process, please see our support article at https://support.panopto.com/s/article/Learn-About-the-TLS-Deprecation, contact Panopto Support online at https://support.panopto.com, or via email at support@panopto.com.
Best Regards,
Your Team at Panopto
