Dear RVC colleagues, students and Learn users
Just a quick reminder that as part of our continued commitment to the RVC and its digital landscape RVC LEARN will be undergoing an upgrade on the 15thAugust 2019. So that the upgrade work can be completed as robustly as possible RVC LEARN will be taken offline from 6am Thursday 15thAugust 2019. During this downtime the underlying Moodle code will receive an update to the latest stable version, which will address a number of know issues. We will also be installing our new theme and installing an accessibility checking tool
Following consultation with CoSector (the hosting service for RVC LEARN) and to minimise disruption we envisage the downtime to last no longer than 24 hours. RVC LEARN will be available online again from 9am Friday 16thAugust 2019 however, following the upgrade work and its release there are still a number of settings that need careful configuration, as such RVC LEARN should be considered “at risk” and period in which we cannot guarantee availability. During this period the systems will undergo scheduled modifications and testing essential to the continuation of RVC LEARN this period will remain in effect until 9am Monday 19th August 2019.
An important part of any system upgrade is the management of risk to this end back-ups will be made and a contingency and roll back process will be activated should the upgrade fail at any point. However, we have completed diligent testing and are confident that the upgrade process will be a success.
Following the upgrade, leading up to the start of the new academic term you may also notice a number of gradual changes to RVC LEARN and its menu navigations. This is the start of a longer-term project to improve the usability, navigation and accessibility of our RVC LEARN platform.
Regards
Craig Daraz & the Digital Learning team
